Wordbook Selection

Choose from two types of wordbooks designed for different learning needs:

  • Quick Start Wordbooks: Each wordbook contains no more than 20 characters, perfect for learning by personal interest. Complete them in one session for quick wins and focused practice.
  • HSK Wordbooks: Strictly based on official HSK vocabulary lists, these wordbooks provide structured learning paths. Set up a study plan and progress systematically through the curriculum.

How do I start practicing?

From the home page, you can access "Quick Start" wordbooks for quick learning or "HSK Study" wordbooks for structured learning. Select a wordbook, and the character audio will play automatically. After listening, click the tone (1-4) you think is correct.

What's the difference between Quick Start and HSK Study wordbooks?

Quick Start wordbooks contain no more than 20 characters each, perfect for learning by personal interest. HSK Study wordbooks are based on official HSK vocabulary lists and support structured learning with study plans.

How do I set up a study plan?

For HSK Study wordbooks, you can set up a study plan by selecting a wordbook and choosing "Set Plan". Set your daily learning goal (how many new characters to learn per day) and optionally set a target completion date. The system will automatically arrange your daily learning tasks.

What is the review system?

The app uses a spaced repetition algorithm based on the forgetting curve. Characters you've learned are automatically scheduled for review based on your mastery level. You can set your daily review goal in "Profile" → "Review Settings".

How do I save important characters?

On the practice or character detail page, click the star icon to favorite the character or phrase. All favorites can be viewed in the Practice Center.

What is the Error List?

The Error List automatically records characters you answered incorrectly during practice. You can review these weak areas through a dedicated review mode in the Practice Center.

What are Today's Tasks?

On the home page, you'll see "Today's Tasks" which includes your daily learning tasks (from your study plan) and review tasks (based on spaced repetition). Tap to start learning or reviewing directly.

How do I adjust audio settings?

Go to "Profile", click "Audio Settings" to adjust volume, playback speed, auto-play, and repeat count to match your learning preferences.

Does the app require internet connection?

No. All content in Tone Master is stored locally, fully supporting offline use. Some audio files may be downloaded from Firebase Storage on first use, but once cached, you can learn completely offline.
